Will you consign everything that you’re offered?

No, we curate our listings carefully and not every offering will be consigned. We will give every offering equal consideration.

What is the process for consigning an auction lot?

Vehicles and registration plates/automobilia are submitted for consideration by their owners and are subsequently reviewed and curated by an in-house team, with input from independent specialists.

What information do I need to provide to Collecting Cars?

We will ask for key details about the auction lot. When we make a decision to consign, our copywriters will contact you to gather further information.

Buying at Auction

How much does it cost to buy an auction lot on Collecting Cars?

The entirety of the winning bid will be paid to the seller of the auction lot.

When you are the highest bidder in a Collecting Cars online auction, and the auction lot has met or exceeded the reserve, we charge you a Buyer’s Premium (as detailed in our Auction Fees section). There are no additional administrative fees on top of this from Collecting Cars.

Private Sales

What are the fees to sell via Private Sales?

Private Sales has a commission fee for sellers upon a successful transaction of just 6% (+VAT where applicable), with the fee capped at £50k. This means that the equivalent fee for a £1 million sale is just 5%; for a £2 million sale just 2.5%; and for a car sold for £5 million, a fee that equates to just 1% of the value.

Is my vehicle suitable for Private Sales?

Private Sales is aimed at cars with values upwards of £250,000, with an even more significant benefit to those worth more than £1 million.

What should I include in the description?

Your description should include anything buyers will need or want to know about the vehicle. Call out any notable elements of the specification, condition, or provenance of the vehicle that you feel will be of interest. Listing out the service history, dates and mileages is also very helpful to prospective buyers. Your vehicle must be ‘as described’ so please be as transparent as you can about any faults or damage.

How should I price my car?

Do your research and price the car realistically to encourage interest. Rather than aligning to speculative asking prices that are often not based in reality, take a look at sale prices for similar vehicles with comparable specification and mileage, and pay particular attention to recent sales, as market values can change quickly.
